data-mm-id=”_jjpw6bds5″>The Chicago Bears have declined their fifth-year option on Mitchell Trubkisky's contract, showing just how far the 25-year-old quarterback has fallen. Last summer, the Bears were all-in on Trubisky, sure that he was the key to their future. Roughly 10 months later, he's being pushed aside. The Bears shocked everyone during the 2017 NFL Draft when they traded up from the third pick to No. 2 and selected Trubisky out of North Carolina. In doing so, they passed on future stars Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Instead they got Trubisky, who has been a mess. Even his 2018 season that offered so much hope was a bit of a facade. In 2018, Trubisky completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 3,223 yards, with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. But while his Total QBR (71.0) ranked third in the NFL, his passer rating (95.4) ranked 16 and his yards per attempt (7.4) ranked 17th. The Bears went to the playoffs and Trubisky was named a Pro Bowl replacement for Jared Goff. Folks in Chicago were excited, people were even interested in the young quarterback's love life. The Bears rested a lot of hope in that QBR number and the run to the playoffs that was mostly built by their defense. Chicago paid a price for its faith in the young quarterback. Trubisky was straight awful in 2019. He finished the season completing 63.2 percent of his passes for 3,138 yards, with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He finished 32nd in yards per attempt (6.1), 28th in QBR (39.4), 27th in touchdown passes, and 28th in quarterback rating (83.0). But hey, give the kid credit for consistency, he was horrible from start to finish. Trubisky has been exposed as largely a checkdown quarterback in an era where quarterbacks are getting more accurate down-field. He seems completely risk-averse, which isn't a winning formula in the modern, pass-happy NFL. Oh, and for some odd reason he has issues throwing to his left: For your viewing pleasure: Mitchell Trubisky attempting to throw left pic.twitter.com/JW9AQemkih— Parker Lewis (@ParkerLewisJR) August 15, 2019It's obvious that whatever momentum existed in Chicago fell apart in 2019. Trubisky disintegrated before our eyes and was even benched in favor of Chase Daniel at one point. Meanwhile, the Bears wound up 8-8 when they were supposed to contend for a Super Bowl. Things are so bad that Chicago brought in Nick Foles and his bad contract to compete for the starting quarterback job. The franchise just gave up on Trubisky rapidly. Even local restaurants turned on him. It really is amazing how quickly things turned sour for Trubisky. Even bad quarterbacks get their fifth-year options picked up on the off-chance they turn things around. The Bears say he's in an open competition for the starting job but it's fairly clear they're already looking ahead to life after he's gone.

Bayern Munich are considering the possibility of going for Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo this summer, according to Sky in Germany.
The Seagulls originally signed Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente in January 2021, and sent him on loan to Beerschot six months later. He returned to the Amex last summer and played a huge role in what can only be described as a historic season for the club from the south coast of England as they secured a place in the Europa League.
The 21-year-old midfielder was of strong interest to Arsenal and Chelsea this January, but Brighton simply refused to sell such an important player in the middle of the season. Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica instead and Arsenal are believed to the favourites for West Ham captai…

Tottenham returned to winning ways with a 3-1 home victory over Crystal Palace after a dazzling spell of three goals in 11 second-half minutes.
Ange Postecoglou’s team were heading for a second straight defeat when fit-again Eberechi Eze curled home for Oliver Glasner’s side with 59 minutes on the clock.
Substitute Brennan Johnson helped turn the match back in Spurs’ favour, though, with a brilliant assist for Timo Werner’s 77th-minute equaliser before Cristian Romero headed in a second soon after.
Captain Son Heung-min wrapped up the scoring two minutes from time after Johnson had sent him away to earn the hosts’ a much-needed win in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Yaya Toure is very positive about having opportunities in management despite seeing Patrick Vieira recently sacked by Crystal Palace.
Toure was disappointed to see his former Manchester City team-mate lose his role as manager of the Eagles, who replaced Vieira with 75-year-old Roy Hodgson until the end of the season.
Speaking at a Football Black List event, the former Barcelona and City midfielder paid tribute to Vieira, whose dismissal meant there are no black managers in the Premier League.
Patrick Vieira is a great person, and a great coach as well. I think it s a sad part of it, Toure said.
It s a concern because if you have 50 per cent of the black players playing Premier League, and maybe one or two per cent of managers or coaches are black, it s …
Massimiliano Allegri revealed Juventus will be without their South American contingent, including Paulo Dybala, and the injured Federico Chiesa as they prepare to face Napoli on Saturday.
Dybala, who has been involved in four goals in his last four league games, heads the absentee list, which also includes Rodrigo Bentancur, Danilo, Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro.
Juve have managed just one point from their opening two Serie A games, only once in their history Allegri s first spell in 2015-16 – have they failed to win any of their opening three matches.
And matters have worsened for the Old Lady as Allegri confirmed on Friday that the visitors will be without their South American players after their late returns from international duty.

Forest Green enjoyed their first away league win since the opening day of last season as a second-half Matty Stevens goal secured a 1-0 triumph at Harrogate.
Stevens, who netted 27 times as Rovers won promotion in 2021/22 but only managed one goal last term, was credited with the final touch on a goal-bound effort by strike partner Tyrese Omotoye.
His 46th-minute header also sealed only a second win of any kind in 29 contests for the Gloucestershire outfit, following their relegation in spring.
Earlier, Omotoye had been denied by home goalkeeper Mark Oxley after an intelligent through ball by Charlie McCann.
At the other end, meanwhile, Sam Folarin’s firm drive was kept out at the near post by Luke Daniels.
But the visitors forged ahead 55 secon…

Luka Jovic has found it hard to kick-start his Real Madrid career and Saturday s LaLiga defeat to Real Mallorca showed how much work the striker still has to do.
The 21-year-old, a reported €50million signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in the transfer window, has struggled to make an impact under Zinedine Zidane thanks largely to the continued good form of Karim Benzema.
Speaking on Friday, Zidane insisted Jovic was not discouraged at having previously started just two LaLiga matches and promised the forward would be given his chance.
He duly was for the visit to Son Moix, where Madrid s unbeaten start to the league season came to an end thanks to a fine first-half goal from Lago Junior seven minutes in.
