Howe slams ‘slow start’ and ‘stretched defending’ as Newcastle’s unbeaten start ends at Fulham

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe described his side s first half at Fulham as difficult after suffering their first defeat of the season.

Fulham took the lead through Raul Jimenez before summer signing Emile Smith Rowe doubled their advantage before the break.

Howe brought on Jacob Murphy and Lewis Hall for the second half and quickly pulled a goal back when the former assisted Harvey Barnes for his third Premier League goal of the season.

The Magpies were miles off the pace in the first half and were made to pay.

I think we did, it was a slow start and the first goal was a killer blow for us, Howe said when asked if his side lost the game in the first half. It was a poor goal for us to concede, we need to do much better.
